Speech Title: Speech Title: Knowledge Engineering Paradigms in Smart Education: Methodologies, Applications and Challenges
Abstract
Knowledge engineering (KE) paradigms deal with the development of intelligent systems in which reasoning and knowledge play pivotal role. Regarding the reasoning mechanism, there are many approaches of reasoning e.g.; automated, spatial, temporal, commonsense, fuzzy, geometric, probabilistic, causal reasoning, qualitative reasoning, and case-based reasoning. Regarding the knowledge, there are many techniques for knowledge representation, e.g.; semantic networks, scripts, If-then rules, ontology, and cases.
Researchers have been used the KE techniques and methodologies to develop a smart tutoring and learning systems. Moreover, the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and data engineering is enabling the creation of a new generation of web-based smart systems for all educational and learning tasks. This talk discusses the KE paradigms and computational intelligence (CI) techniques for developing the intelligent educational and smart Learning systems. Four popular techniques are presented namely; case-based reasoning, ontological engineering, data mining and intelligent agents. Moreover, the talk addresses the challenges faced by the application developers and knowledge engineers in developing and deploying such systems. In addition, the talk presents some cases of intelligent learning systems/tools developed by the author and his colleagues.
